Making Our New House a Home: To Do List

I love lists! I love organization and planning in general, and what better way to keep track of everything than a list. Now that we are relatively moved into our new house, here is our to do list (which is sure to only grow over time).

~Front Yard~

• Get rid of the weeds and plant grass
• Remove random maple tree at the front left corner of the house
• Remove stones between front walkway and driveway
• Replace and expand driveway
• Create a walkway from the driveway to the backyard gate
• Redo concrete walkway and stoop
• Re-landscape front flower beds
• Add additional exterior lighting
• Build an area to contain garbage cans on the left side of the house

That is all relatively straightforward, but it gets more complicated inside. Our long-term plans for the interior main floor involve changing the floor plan (more details to come), but we have some shorter term goals to make it feel more livable and homey.

~Living Room and Dining Room~

• Get new welcome mat
• Organize shelving in dining area
• Purchase new larger and expandable dining table
• Hang ‘travel art’ on wall behind TV
• Purchase couch and additional living room seating
• Purchase table lamp for side table
• Replace area rug
• Add window treatments for front window
• Add additional decor items (i.e. throw pillows, etc.)
• Re-paint TV console/buffet
• Re-finish coffee tables and end table

~Kitchen~

• Purchase and install drawers for cabinets
• Build shelving on wall next to counter to hold canisters

~Small Spare Room (next to kitchen)~

{No real plans here until we change the floor plan}

~Main Floor Bathroom~

• Organize bathroom closet storage
• Replace towel rod with hooks
• Add shelves above the toilet

~Back Spare Room (My Room)~

• Purchase table and chair for a workspace

{I have grand plans for this room, but for now it is low on the budget list so all I need is to make it usable.}

~Master Bedroom~

• Purchase new bed and mattress
• Add window treatments (at least for side window if not for both)

~Basement~

Justin welcomes you to the basement!

{No real short-term plans here, but we do have some larger projects planned that I will get into later.}

~Backyard~

• Build a shed
• Make a patio outside of the back door
• Buy/Construct a fire pit
• Re-grade the flower beds
• Re-landscape flower beds
• Plant hedges around the perimeter of the yard
• Replace gates with a nicer wood gate
• Build a deck off of the kitchen

That is the quick overview of our short-term plans for the house. We have some very exciting bigger plans in the works that I can’t wait to share with you.
